The Hen Caravan used to be the 'Banger Racing HQ'.. we kept it's very fetching check design

We have been rescuing hens for the last 2-3 years at Tapnell Farm. They are all ex-battery hens rescued with the help from the British Hen Foundation. These lovely ladies have now retired to glamping on Tapnell Farm but on a good day they still provide our guests with a fresh egg or two.. very free range!

Nine Houses Heated with Biomass.... (That's a bit of a mouthfull that one)

Recently we have installed a Biomass Boiler at Tapnell Farm and its soul task is to heat all of the properties including our self catering cottage and manor. We can use organic waste from the farm and surrounding areas to fuel the boiler and to heat the buildings it is connected to. The use of biomass in heating systems is beneficial because it uses agricultural, forest, urban and industrial residues and waste to produce heat and electricity with less effect on the environment than fossil fuels. This type of energy production has a limited long term effect on the environment and has a small carbon footprint.

Historically, before the use of fossil fuels in significant quantities, biomass in the form of wood fuel provided most of humanity's heating.

Eight Hundred Acres...
Grass Land and Wheat..

Grass Land and Wheat..

The south side of the farm was the location for the 'Isle of Wight Pop Festival' 1970. The largest music festival with over 600,000 fans of Joni Mitchell, The Who, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, to name but a few.

The Farm is a fantastic place to explore and learn so don't forget your wellies!

Seven Builders Building

We have a great team of builders who are perminantly on site at Tapnell Farm helping us develop new ideas and projects. From fitting out our Honesty Larder...

The Honesty Larder has been a great addition to Tom's Eco Lodge and Tapnell Farm and in 2015 it is being developed and we will be introducing a bigger and better farm shop to the area instead.. watch this space.

Six Milkers Milking...

Farmer Joss and the Tapnell Team (Bailey the dog included) Take great care of our Cows at Tapnell Farm. Ian is in charge of the Dairy and he can tell the number of a Cow just by looking at her.

Our farm has over 300 cows, and we milk twice a day - producing over 16,000 litres of wholesome fresh milk every day.

Come and see how it all works. Or why not visit our calves in the maternity barn, and whilst you are out and about you may even witness one being born!

The farm spans across 800 acres of grassland and wheat.

Four Orphan Lambs...

All together now... "Awwwwww"

Every spring Tapnell Farm adopt a handfull of Orphan Lambs who need hand rearing. We get these little lambys from neighbouring farms. The reson they are often orphened is because they have come from a litter of triplets. The mother can only look after two of them, so the weakest one is left. Luckily the farmers are very vigulant in catching up with these little ones and taking them to new homes like Tapnell where they can live happily (with lots of grass, shelter, other friends and amazing views!)

We do love a happy ending!

We look forward to meeting the newbies in April...
